13 Cheap Hotels Near the Louvre for Budget Travelers

On a budget and looking for the best cheap hotels near the Louvre? I’ve got some great recommendations for you – read on for details!

Okay, I feel compelled to start this post with a big disclaimer: It’s important to have accurate expectations for what you’re going to get when you put “cheap” and “Louvre” in the same sentence. This is one of the most sought-after, central, and beautiful areas in Paris, and accommodation prices reflect that!

Basically, what I’m saying is… you’re just not going to find hotels for €100/night, no matter what, no matter what month you visit or how crappy the hotel is. It’s just not happening.

And if you’re visiting in summer, you’ll be lucky to find something at €200/night.

Don’t despair though!

If you’re still reading, it means you want budget accommodations in the most gorgeous and central part of Paris – I get it. I love a good budget deal AND staying in a great location too.

So, in the rest of this post, I’m going to share what you can expect a “cheap” hotel near the Louvre to cost, some of the best options for budget accommodations near this famous museum, and some other considerations for where to stay in Paris.

Why should you listen to me? I’ve visited France 10 different times, including living in Paris for three months. I’ve traveled all over the country, crisscrossed Paris on countless occasions, visiting the most famous landmarks and tons and tons of her hidden gems.

I’ve brought multiple friends and family members with me to France for their first visit, and traveled through France in every season of the year.

Basically, I’m your France travel-planning bestie 😉

General Prices for Budget Accommodations Near the Louvre

A 3D glass triangle building in the middle of a courtyard between two lavish gold buildings with a few people walking around on the different stone.

For the purposes of this post, I’m considering “near the Louvre” to mean within a 15-20 (max, but ideally less than 15) minute walk to the Pyramide du Louvre.

So, what is actually considered “cheap” around the Louvre? Low prices depend heavily on the time of year that you visit. January, February, November, and sometimes March tend to have lower accommodation options. Later in spring and summer, as well as around Christmastime, see much higher prices across all hotels.

In winter, you can find a few hotels that will have rooms available for under €150/night, but generally, €150-200 would be considered an inexpensive room.

Once you get into the high season or shoulder season (basically, April through October), cheap hotels generally start at around €230-300 per night, and it’s not uncommon for €300-350 to be the best you can get in mid-July and August.

August can be a bit of a lull in Paris, with somewhat less expensive accommodations than the rest of high season.

Your best bet to get the best deals? Book as early as you can, 3-5 months or more in advance if possible.

In summary:
–Winter is the cheapest time to visit (€150-200)
–Spring to early fall lowest prices are generally between (€230-300)
–August can often be a lower cost month in the middle of the high season
–Book early for the best deals!

Hotels Farther Out But Still “Near” the Louvre

If what you really want is convenient access to the Louvre but don’t necessarily need to be riiiiiiight next to the Louvre, then you could also consider staying somewhere near Metro Line 1.

Metro Line 1 runs in a straight line right through the center of the city, passing through the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs Elysées, the Jardin de Tuileries, the Louvre, Hotel de Ville, Place de la Bastille, the Marais, and beyond.

Sometimes referred to as the “tourist line,” Metro Line 1 is incredibly convenient for getting between many of Paris’ top sights. And since the Louvre is on this line, you can stay further out, but take Metro Line 1 in and be at the Louvre steps in 15 minutes or less.

What Is Near the Louvre & Why Stay Here

So, why would you want to stay near the Louvre?

Paris is divided into 20 neighborhoods, called arrondissements, and the Louvre is located in the 1st arrondissement, right in the center of the city.

This area of Paris is truly gorgeous – the architecture is stately and grand, with intricate stone facades on buildings, and there are so many Instagrammable places around the Louvre. Many luxury brands are established in the 1st arrondissement, and the nearby Place Vendome is home to an array of luxury brands.

The Louvre also borders the Seine River, and the stretch of the Seine along the Louvre is incredibly beautiful.

This Louvre is also quite close to the Ile de la Cité island in the Seine, which holds the stunning Sainte Chappelle and Notre Dame churches.

Just across the river, on the left bank of the Seine, is the 6th arrondissement (known as Saint-Germain), and the 7th arrondissement, which is also home to the Eiffel Tower.

Within a 15 walk of the entrance to the Louvre, you can find these other top sites and attractions:

  • The Jardins de Tuileries
  • Place de la Concorde
  • Rue de Rivoli
  • Opera Garnier
  • Place Vendome
  • Jardin du Palais-Royal + Buren Columns
  • Sainte Chapelle
  • Centre Pompidou
  • Musée d’Orsay

If you want to stay near the Louvre, you can stay on the right bank of the Seine (aka the north side of the Seine), or you can also stay across the river on the left bank (the south side of the Seine). A couple of the spots we recommend on this list are on the left bank.

A Few Other Things to Know About Parisian Hotels

These are a few things to know about hotels in Paris (and will certainly be true of cheaper hotels in the city center). I don’t consider any of these things *bad* things per se, they’re just different and a consequence of being in a historic city.

➡️Standard hotel rooms in France are quite small – much smaller than hotel rooms in the United States. Because these are old buildings, the rooms are just a bit tighter and there is definitely less floor space.

➡️Expect elevators to also be very tiny – and not all places have elevators. I actually really love the teeny tiny elevators in France – they’re such a novelty!

➡️On the same note, almost no hotels offer free breakfast. Almost every hotel will offer breakfast, but it costs extra. We rarely pay for the hotel breakfast, preferring instead to grab some pastries from the closest boulangerie as we start our day.

Where to Stay Near the Louvre on a Budget – The Wrap Up

The hotels in this post are all good options for being close to the Louvre (whether by walking or a fast metro in) and are good budget-friendly options for staying in the very center of Paris.

The Louvre is definitely worth visiting when you’re in Paris and the area around the museum is a great location to stay. Whether you’re looking to be right across the street from the Louvre or just want the least expensive hotel that is relatively nearby, or prefer to stay in an apartment rental, I’m confident there is a hotel on this list that will work for your needs and wishes!
